Our Challenge
One of the primary challenges in developing the 8th Element Plugin was managing the large dataset of medical codes and ensuring accurate, real-time recommendations. To handle this, we implemented a well-structured architecture capable of processing and organizing complex medical data efficiently. For advanced suggestions and to minimize mismatches, we integrated OpenAI's capabilities to provide intelligent code recommendations based on clinical context.
Given the sensitivity and specificity required in medical coding, collaboration with an experienced medical coder was essential. Their expertise and guidance, combined with thorough testing, helped us validate the system and ensure the accuracy and reliability of all coding outputs.
Our Solution
The 8th Element Plugin was developed using a structured architecture to efficiently manage and process a large set of medical codes. We integrated OpenAI to deliver intelligent, context-aware CPT, ICD, and macro suggestions. A smart keyword-matching system scans clinical records for accurate recommendations. To ensure precision, we collaborated with a certified medical coder, whose insights guided development and testing. The plugin also includes an NCCI edit check to validate billable code combinations, ensuring both accuracy and compliance.

We developed a web application using microservices and multi-tenant architecture to ensure the system performance is not affected due to the web traffic.
